Anonymous asked: youre 238 lbs???!??! you shouldnt even be on a horse...
I’m a heck of a lot more balanced than a lot of lighter people.
Do these horses look unhappy to you?
Reblogging as I think this is important for plus sized equestrians to see.
Your weight does NOT have to hinder your riding ability… Just be smart about riding! Choose an appropriate horse, and make sure your horse is comfortable and happy!
Oh for fucks sake. I’ve seen Alex ride, I’ve seen her horses, and they clearly are not in any discomfort from the amount of weight they carry.
Especially because when they are uncomfortable [from the times they were trying out a poor fitting saddle, or one of the horses had a medical issue] they show it in a very obvious way.
And they usually look happier with Alex on them than they do with other people I’ve seen ride them.
So you can go fuck right off.
A healthy adult horse can carry 20% of its own body weight without discomfort. Some horses that are bred to be stronger/carry more [this also includes some ponies!] or that are very in shape could handle a bit more. Obviously a young, lame, sick, or old horse will most likely not be able to carry that whole 20% comfortably.
Also, the better the rider, the less weight matters [although obviously it always does to some extent]. A skilled rider can use, balance, and distribute their weight better than a less skilled rider, because they are strong and athletic as fuck and have the knowledge and muscle memory to use their bodies in the best manner possible.
The amount of fatphobia in the equestrian world is fucking bullshit.
YES. Thank you Cat!
